Denise Horan

After six years working internationally – in various roles in the UK, the Netherlands and Kazakhstan – Denise moved back home to the west of Ireland in 2019. Surrounded by the landscape and community spirit that inspires her, Denise continues to provide strategic communications, engagement and stakeholder management services to businesses and organisations of all sizes.

After qualifying as a Physical Education and Irish teacher from the University of Limerick, Denise taught for two years before discovering her passion for writing. A member of the Mayo ladies senior football team which won four All-Ireland titles between 1999 and 2003, she was soon enlisted as a ladies football columnist with the Western People newspaper and later with the Irish Examiner. A Diploma in Journalism followed and six years later she became the first female Editor of a regional newspaper in Ireland, when she took the helm at The Mayo News at the age of 28.

In 2009, Denise moved into the world of corporate communications, joining Shell in Ireland. A nine-year career in the oil and gas industry brought her to various parts of the world, heading communications teams for major projects and business divisions and working closely with senior leaders.

In 2018 she joined global building materials giant CRH to lead communications for their largest business division in Europe, based in Amsterdam, before relocating to Mayo in 2019. With a Diploma in Executive Coaching from the Irish Management Institute and UCC, Denise draws on her extensive experience of people, cultures, team dynamics and leadership, in work and in high-level sport, to support clients with professional and life coaching.

In her free time, Denise enjoys walking in nature, travel and volunteering with local community organisations.
